Making a green plums compote aka janki kompot

How my grandma makes janki kompot at home, jars boiled in a pot for 15 minutes.

Making a green plums compote aka janki kompot

Definately a stranger post, but I just want to save the recipe

Janki are the small green plums you get in summer. We turn them into kompot and keep the jars for later. The process is simple.

What you need

  • Janki
  • Sugar
  • Clean jars with lids
  • A big pot
  • A cloth for the bottom of the pot

Steps

  1. Gather and clean the janki. Wash them well and pick out any bad ones.
  2. Fill each jar halfway with janki.
  3. Add 5 tablespoons of sugar per jar.
  4. Close the jars.
  5. Put a cloth on the bottom of a big pot so the jars do not sit on bare metal. Place the jars in the pot and fill with water until the jars are covered.
  6. Boil the jars for 15 minutes.
  7. Take them out and put them upside down, lid on the floor.

The next day

They are ready. The lids should not flop (that means the seal held). Store the jars in a cool, dry place.
