Contributing to open source by translating vokoscreenNG
You do not need to write code to contribute — I translated vokoscreenNG to Bulgarian on Transifex in about 30 minutes.
I needed a screen recorder on Linux Mint and Kazam was not working well for me. I went looking for an alternative and landed on vokoscreenNG. It does what I need: record the full screen, a window, or an area, with mic and system audio.
Like any sane person, I read the README… And I found this:
Translate Only 100% translated languages will be added to vokoscreenNG. You can translate to anytime, your translation will be included in the next bugfix release. Please translate only at Transifex, it is very easy. https://app.transifex.com/vkohaupt/vokoscreen/
Fair enough. I checked Bulgarian and there was nothing translated. Its a cool app, so why not help it out, even if 1 person needs Bulgarian.
It took about 30 minutes in total (while waiting for Cursor to finish its tasks). A lot of credit goes to en2bg4term, a neat Bulgarian project (a dictionary of carefully picked translations for common STEM and IT terms), where I opened a couple of issues.
Ofc, I am not a professional translator, so if a string is wrong, corrections on Transifex are very welcome.
Speaking of Transifex it is a pretty cool thing as well.
